What is Guggulu?

Therapeutic Guggulu is the oily-sap gum-resin obtained from Guggul tree. This tree is native to South Asian countries like India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. The gum is collected from the liquid that oozes out of the tree bark. This process takes several months. Holes are made in the bark of the tree in the months of November to January allowing the aromatic sap to ooze out. If treated and processed properly, the therapeutic and healing properties of Guggulu can be retained for over 20 years.

Guggulu is an oily gum that is yellowish to brownish in color. It has amazing anti-inflammatory properties and is used in Ayurveda to treat arthritis, lower bad cholesterol and reduce risk of resultant atherosclerosis (hardening of arteries caused by cholesterol deposits), treat skin diseases like acne, and blemishes. Guggulu is found to control vata dosha and also aids in weight loss.
