What is Maror Phali?
Maror Phali is obtained from the tree called Screw Tree, named as such due to the peculiar twisted shape of the pods (fruits). All the pods are singular fruits with 5 fibers closely twisted together to resemble a screw.
According to a common and famous Ayurvedic belief that if a particular plant resembles a human organ, it is useful in treating the disorders of that part, eg. Walnuts were considered to be good for brain function due to their resemblance to the human brain. Similarly, Maror Phali due to its resemblance to human intestines was tried and found to be effective in treating intestinal disorders. It is found to be potent in killing intestinal parasites, colic pains in babies, and cramping associated with diarrhea. It is found to be effective in curing twisting pain in the abdomen
It is found to have antioxidant, anti-cancer, anti-diabetic and anti-microbial properties.
