What is Manakand?
Manakand, also known as Mahapatra, is a cold, light, and sweet plant that treats Pitta Dosha, cures Oedema and Haemorrhages. This ayurvedic plant can grow to a height of 3-6 feet. The stem is approximately 4-8 inches in diameter. It is used for the treatment of diseases of swelling, earache, bleeding, and splenomegaly (enlarged spleen).

Manakand Dosage
Root Powder: 5-10g or as prescribed.
Juice: 10-20ml or as prescribed.
Stalk and leaf Juice: 12-24ml or as prescribed.
Leaves powder: 5-10g or as prescribed.
Manakand Side-effects and Warnings
Common side-effects: The stem is edible, but contains Calcium oxalate along with other irritants that can numb and swell the tongue and pharynx which may result in difficulty breathing, and sharp throat pain.
Not so common side-effects: Not known.
Pregnant or Nursing Mothers: Not known.
Children: Not known.
Warning:
The lower part of the Manakand plant contains a greater concentration of poison. Prolonged boiling before serving or proper processing may reduce the risk of poisoning. Acidic fruit such as tamarind may dissolve the poison.
